Australian legend badly bruised after bike crash, fears broken foot

Former Australian cricketer Shane Warne avoided a serious mishap but has been left badly bruised after a bike accident in Melbourne. Warne had taken out his bike for a ride along with son Jason but returned with injuries to his hip, foot and ankle as per reports. The 52-yar-old was in severe pain and remains concerned of having suffered a broken foot or ankle.

As per Australian media reports, Shane Warne went down with the 300kg bike and slid for more than 15m while taking out the machine for a ride in Melbourne. Australia’s leading wicket-taker in Tests, the legendary spinner avoided serious injury and didn’t seek immediate treatment but was headed to the hospital on Monday morning to get himself checked out after waking up in severe pain. Warne was concerned with having damaged his hip and fearing his foot or ankle may have been broken.

Shane Warne had been out on a road ride in Melbourne on Sunday before the incident happened as he returned the bike to storage. “I’m a bit battered and bruised and banged-up. I thought I was OK, but this morning I woke up and can’t move too well. So I’m off to hospital after this. The ankle is not great, but hopefully it’s just bruised. The hip I think is just bruised, where I landed, but then the bike landed on my foot. Hopefully it’s not broken and I’ll be there at the first Test at the Gabba,” said Warne.

Shane Warne featured in 145 Tests for Australia and is the country’s all-time leading Test wicket-taker with 708 scalps, has been riding motorbikes for more than two years. After hanging his boots, Warne has made a career in broadcasting and expects to commentate for Fox Sports when the Ashes start, with the first Test between Australia and England at the Gabba in Brisbane on December 8.
