It seems Bangladesh cricket team is playing two matches simultaneously at the T20 World Cup. They are competing at the World Cup fighting with best cricket teams on the planet & at the same time captain Mahmudullah is at war with Bangladesh Cricket Board President
It is worth noting that Bangladesh has qualified for the Super 12 but their first match loss to Scotland did not go down well with the fans and the BCB President back home. Since than Mahmudullah & BCB President is continuously shooting barbs at each other.
After Bangladesh lost out to Scotland, BCB President Nazmul Hassan called the team & the captain huge embarassment for the nation. Defending himself on Friday on a local network SomoyTV, Nazmul again repeated “I will still stick to my point that I was not happy with their approach, attitude and planning in the first game,” the BCB chief added.
“Like he said they feel bad when anyone questions their commitment. I don’t think anyone raised question about their commitment… Not for once I said anything about commitment. Secondly, he said I belittled them but I feel it’s an emotional outburst. I want to say I never spoke against any individual”, declared BCB President.
Hurt with the comments of his President, Mahmudullah, after securing berth in the Super12s for Bangladesh, did not hold back his emotions in the press conferene and hit back.
“We expect criticism when it is warranted, but if that is belittling, we feel bad, we don’t deserve this treatment, we are humans.”, said Mahmudullah.
Nazmul also said that he is ‘quite surprised’ that Mahmudullah took his opinion so personally.
“I think he and other players need to understand one thing, like he said, that they are humans but on the same note, the team’s supporters and the spectators are also humans and everyone in BCB.
“There is nothing to take personally because whatever we said was for the team and the country and not against any individual.”
This is not the 1st time BCB and Mahmudullah are not on the same terms. BCB also hold grudges against the T20 skipper after he decided to rule himself out of test cricket without any discussion with the board and the selectors.
Now again, BCB is left red-faced at a tournament of the global magnitude. Will BCB replace Mahmudullah anytime soon – answer by BCB President to local Bangladeshi channel gives clear indications that the prospect is inevitable.
“At this moment we are not thinking about captaincy change but it is natural that changes will come and there is a possibility that captaincy will be changed though I am not willing to disclose in which format,” he said.
Meanwhile Bangladesh plays Sri Lanka LIVE at 3.30 PM on Sunday in their first Super 12 League match.
