IND-A vs SA-A Abhimanyu Easwaran and Priyank Panchal ring alarm bells ahead of South Africa tour; Hanuma Vihari fails litmus test

It was a day of batting heroics, Debutant Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill shined with their fifties against New Zealand. In the other part of the world, Priyank Panchal and Abhimanyu Easwaran shined with sensational batting performances in South Africa. Easwaran, who was part of India’s tour of England, smashed a century and Priyank Panchal won hearts with 96 runs innings.

Abhimanyu Easwaran scored 103 runs off 209 deliveries. His innings featured as many as 16 boundaries. Skipper Panchal might have missed out on a century but he did impress with 96 runs knock that featured 14 fours. Together, the duo shared a partnership of 142 runs for the second wicket. The bowlers might have failed big time but the two batsmen were on a mission to chase South Africa A’s massive score of 509. They will now look to continue their impressive form ahead of senior India tour of South Africa.

Easwaran and Panchal now will also add to the worry of under pressure Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara. After Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill’s fifties, the two batsmen are under the scanner for their poor form over the last couple of years. Their below-par score of 25 and 36 would only add to their worry. They need to fire with the bat to keep their places secure as new talents are ready to pounce on the opportunity.

Meanwhile, Hanuma Vihari who was dropped from the national squad to India A has failed to make a mark. He departed for just 25 runs off 53 balls which puts him on the edge after Gill and Iyer’s heroics. Despite his heroics in Sydney, he failed to make cuts and now his job would only become challenging with new faces vying for places in the India squad.
