Team India opener Mayank Agarwal has lavished praise on captain Virat Kohli’s leadership as he prepares to make a return to the side during New Zealand’s tour of India. Agarwal has been named in the squad for the two tests and is expected to open the batting in the absence of Rohit Sharma, who succeed Kohli as skipper in T20Is. The series marks the beginning of a new era, with the Karnataka opener excited to work with new head coach Rahul Dravid.
In a chat with WION News, Mayank Agarwal has opened up on playing under Virat Kohli and praised the Indian captain’s leadership skills. Agarwal made his Test debut under Virat Kohli and has played under him in the ODIs as well.
The Indian opener said, “Everyone knows for a fact that the way Virat has played the game is been tremendous. The passion, the aggression that he plays with and the willingness to fight and win which is something that has been exceptional from him. He’s really taken the game forward and he has prioritised test cricket which is great for the game.”
The India vs New Zealand series marks the beginning of a new era, with Rahul Dravid kick starting his stint as the head coach of the Indian team. Agarwal, who has worked with Dravid in India A level said that he was looking forward to the opportunity to learn from the batting legend when the series kicks off.
Agarwal said, “With Rahul sir coming in, he’s been there, he’s worked with the U-19s and all of us have worked with him in India A as well. So we are all looking forward to working with him when given the chance with the Indian team. “
