IPL 2021: David Hussey expects Eoin Morgan-led KKR to win title despite middle-order wobble

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mentor David Hussey on Wednesday put an end to questions regarding the horrible performance from the middle order against DC after their narrow win to enter IPL 2021 Finals against CSK. Notably, KKR lost 6 wickets in a span of 7 runs with 4 players registering a duck. He expects the likes of Morgan, Shakib and Karthik to come good against CSK in IPL 2021 Final.

“No concerns, they are all classy players who know how to play. The difficult nature of these pitches they have been playing on makes the middle-order players stand out. They are not getting that strike rate of 200 and could knock it around 110-120. We will go to Dubai full of confidence and you never know what’s going to happen,” Hussey said in the post-match conference.

“Goal of playing on these pitches is to aim straight. We definitely got too square but we’ve got full confidence in Morgan, Karthik and Shakib. They have done for their countries for so many years,” he added.

Hussey also lauded ‘Find of IPL 2021’ Venkatesh Iyer and Shubman Gill and their match-winning partnership of 96 runs for the opening wicket.

“We’ve found a player in Venkatesh Iyer. He is not only a classy player but he is a wonderful person, teammate as well. I thought he struck the ball superbly from ball one. So, some of these big sixes that he hit got us into the tempo of the match and got us in winning position,” he further stated.

“Shubman Gill is a 10-year veteran of international cricket across all formats. It’s just that how quickly he gets there. He gives the whole batting group a lot of confidence. Everyone knows he is a classy and talented player. I am looking to see him grow as a cricketer,” he stressed.

David Hussey also stated that KKR would take the confidence of the stats in their favour but cannot rule out CSK.

2014: KKR won by 3 wickets against PBKS

2012: KKR won by 5 wickets against CSK

“It’s a great record to go into a grand final and you do take a bit of confidence from that Chennai Super Kings have rarely missed the finals in the history of IPL. So, it’s going to be a great contest. They are a very good coached side,” he said.Hussey concluded by saying that both Andre Russell and Shakib AL Hasan are available for the final against CSK despite T20 World Cup qualifiers.

“He [Andre Russell] might be in the mix. We’ve to discuss this with the medical staff first. He is doing all the practices and training well before the game. He is quality around the mix. He will be desperate to play,” he stated.

“Of course, he [Shakib] is available. He has contributed in last two wins,” he concluded.
