IPL 2021: KKR captain Eoin Morgan all praise for Shubman Gill after his match-winning fifty against SRH says, ‘He is a class act’

Kolkata Knight Riders kept their playoffs hopes alive with a win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in 49th match of IPL 2021 here at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai on Sunday. Shubman Gill was the lead architect of the win as he scored 57 runs in 51 balls. After the match KKR captain Eoin Morgan was all praise for the opening batsman. He also said that Gill is a class act.

“Shubman has shown a huge amount of promise in all formats of the game. Over the last two IPL’s he has been consistent. On a tricky wicket today he made it look easy. It’s true class really. This innings will give him a lot of confidence. He along with Venkatesh Iyer and Rahul Tripathi has been in great form with the bat in the second phase of IPL 2021 phase 2,” Morgan said in the post-match conference.

KKR bowlers played a big role in the win as they restricted SRH batsmen on a below-par total. Praising his bowlers Morgan said, “Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy are two big impact players. In any conditions, two mystery spinners in the squad, we are lucky to have them. Especially, Sunil Narine has been there in the franchise for many years now. As a captain, you just try to analyse the game and put these impact players in a position where you can get the best out of them.”

KKR needed 116 to win in the 20 overs but SRH bowlers made sure the Morgan-led side had to fight it out for the win. SRH battled hard to try and get a win, but the target was always too small.

Talking about the pitch in Dubai Morgan said, “The purpose of T20 Cricket is to be the most entertaining format. Very appealing to the wider audience of the sports. But I think there was an element of pure cricket in today’s pitch. Bowlers bowled in the right area and got their due reward while batsmen had to work harder. And sometimes it’s nice to have that element of cricket in the game. Rather than just ball flying all over the park.”
