A passionate owner who doesn’t leave any chance to talk about his beloved Kolkata Knight Riders, Shahrukh Khan is absent from the UAE stadiums and hasn’t tweeted since September 23. His personal problems involving his son Aryan Khan who was detained by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in relation to drugs consumption has forced the KKR owner to stay away from the team. On Friday, when KKR take on MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings in the final, he will have his mind on the match but his heart with his son, who is now in jail for two weeks.
We has learnt that Shahrukh Khan hasn’t had an interaction with the players since Aryan Khan was detained to avoid any attention. But he has remained in touch with Venky Mysore and senior officials and have kept a tab on the dressing room situation.
“It’s really sad that he won’t be there to cheer the team from the stands, especially with the season we have had. In normal circumstances, he would have definitely gone to Dubai. But he has remained in touch with the senior officials. He has understandably maintained distance with the players but his support will be with us,” one of the franchise insiders told InsideSport.
However, the situation in KKR is strange. They have had a fairytale turnaround having finished the first half at 7th place with just two wins and five losses. But after the break, KKR turned it around even though skipper Eoin Morgan’s poor form continued. KKR won seven out of nine matches including the eliminator and Qualifier 2 to reach the finals against CSK.
Why Shahrukh Khan isn’t attending the Final?
- Shahrukh Khan has been heavily involved in the team even though he doesn’t attend the auctions. He has attended all the finals KKR have played but this time, he will be missing.
- He has maintained his distance even though Eoin Morgan & Co have scripted a memorable turnaround having finished 7th in Phase 1 with just two wins.
- After his son Aryan Khan was detained by the NCB, SRK has maintained his silence and distance with KKR.
- We have learnt that he has done so to avoid any unnecessary limelight on him and unsettle the players ahead of the big final.
- Players want to win the IPL trophy and dedicate that to SRK.

The absence of two star players in Pat Cummins and Andre Russell (injured midway through Phase 2) had no impact as they beat Virat Kohli’s RCB in the Eliminator and table-toppers Delhi Capitals to reach the final. During this turnaround, Shahrukh Khan was missing from the picture. For a man who is so passionate about his team, cheering every good game and jeering one-sided matches that KKR lost, it is difficult to stay away. But he has managed to maintain a distance and not to take away the limelight.
