IPL 2021: Mumbai Indians star Ishan Kishan adds more bows to his string; wicket-keeper bowls spin in the nets

Ishan Kishan will be one of the players to watch out for in the upcoming IPL 2021 Phase 2, having established himself as one of the key components of this Mumbai Indians side. Kishan struggled in the first half in India and was subsequently dropped, but a return to UAE, where he finished as the team’s highest run-getter should provide him with the belief. And ahead of the season, the 23-year-old is putting in the hard yards, with bat and ball in hand.

In a video shared by Mumbai Indians on social media, Ishan Kishan could be seen toiling in the nets with ball in hand. The 23-year-old wicket-keeper tried his hands at bowling spin and did so with some ease, bowling both finger and wrist spin. Kishan, predominantly a wicket-keeper has never bowled in the IPL previously, and his skills in the nets came as a surprise to many fans online. Mumbai Indians also hyped up his talent by captioning the video, “Batsman, wicket keeper aur ab off spinner + leg spinner? Tum toh bade heavy driver nikle”. Watch the video here:

It is unlikely that Ishan Kishan’s services with the ball will be needed for IPL 2021, with Mumbai Indians boasting the likes of Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya and Kieron Pollard in their ranks.  The 23-year-old’s skills with the bat will be needed, as the defending champions look to make it a hat-trick of IPL titles. Kishan’s form dipped considerably in Phase 1, scoring at a strike-rate of less than 100 before he was eventually dropped from the XI.

A return to UAE should appeal to the youngster, who hit the most sixes during the IPL 2020 held in the Gulf nation. Kishan scored 516 runs in just 14  games last year, with a scintillating strike-rate of 145.76. His performances earned him the national team call-up, and the Jharkhand batter has a good chance of making it India’s T20 World Cup squad.
