IPL 2021 Orange Cap: Ruturaj Gaikwad smashes century, overtakes KL Rahul for pole position with 500+ runs, Shikhar Dhawan drops to third

Chennai Super Kings’ consistent opening batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad has taken IPL 2021 Phase 2 by storm. On Saturday, he struck a century off just 60 balls comprising 9 fours and a couple of sixes against Rajasthan Royals. His super show in IPL 2021 took him to the top of the IPL 2021 Orange Cap list. He has now eclipsed Punjab Kings captain KL Rahul and DC opener Shikhar Dhawan. He has also become the first batsman to complete 500 runs in IPL 2021.

500+ runs in a season for CSK in IPL:

S Raina (3)
M Hayden
M Hussey
Dwayne Smith
A Rayudu
S Watson
R GAIKWAD

Earlier, a run-out against Mumbai Indians curtailed Delhi Capitals opener Shikhar Dhawan’s stay at the crease and he failed in his hot pursuit of leading IPL 2021 Orange Cap race. Dhawan had a chance to top the leaderboard if he had scored a half-century. But an unfortunate run-out meant, he will have to wait to achieve the feat. He sits third after KL Rahul on the special list. PBKS will hope KL Rahul, who has amassed 489 runs, continue his sensational touch and win the remaining two matches to qualify in the IPL 2021 playoffs.

Meanwhile, Faf du Plessis is also present in the top 5 lists with 450+ runs in the ongoing IPL season.

Shikhar Dhawan is placed second in the list with 450+ runs while Sanju Samson is also present in the top 3 list.

In the meantime, MI skipper Rohit Sharma is also part of the top 10 list with 300+ runs in the IPL 2021 Orange Cap tally
