Rajasthan Royals clinched absolute thriller against Punjab Kings on Tuesday night as Karthik Tyagi defended 4 runs in last over. But in a process of winning this match, RR bowled their overs little slowly and that has costed skipper Sanju Samson dearly. Rajasthan Royals captain has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during the match.
According to release by IPL Governing Council, “As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Mr Samson was fined Rs 12 lakh”.
Samson will not mind this fine much as its team and specially young Kartik Tyagi delivered performance of the life.
Rajasthan Royals 185 (Jaiswal 49, Lomror 43, Arshdeep 5-32, Shami 3-21) beat Punjab Kings 183 for 4 (Agarwal 67, Rahul 49, Tyagi 2-29, Tewatia 1-23) by two runs
Sanju Samson Fined: Kartik Tyagi produced a stellar final over as Rajasthan Royals snatched victory from the jaws of defeat in Dubai.
Asked to chase 185, Punjab Kings needed 10 to win off 15 balls with eight wickets to spare. Tyagi had only four runs to defend in the final over, but he took two wickets and gave away a solitary run to earn an unfathomable two-run win for the Royals.
PBKS needed 10 off 15, 8 off 12 and finally, just 4 off the final over & then the magic happened.
When Tyagi stepped up to bowl the final over, not only was he defending only four, he was bowling at a partnership of Aiden Markram & Nicholas Pooran that had added 57 runs off just 39 balls on an excellent batting track.
First Ball – His first ball was actually a low full-toss that Markram mistimed to extra cover.
2nd Ball The South African managed to squeeze a single off the second ball.
3rd Ball – The next ball, Pooran was caught-behind off a yorker-length ball, suddenly sending the jitters into the other dressing room.
4th Ball – New batsman Deepak Hooda missed one wide yorker
5th Ball – Deepak Hooda edged the next ball, leaving Fabian Allen having to hit three from the final ball.
6th Ball – Another yorker outside the off-stump meant the Royals had won a game of cricket they had lost about seven overs ago.
Also not to be forgotten, Mustafizur Rahman bowled a very good penultimate over himself, giving away just four as well.
Kartik Tyagi: I was injured during the India leg of the IPL and by the time I got fit, the tournament was suspended. Felt sad. So this feels really good. I have been talking to people over the years and they keep telling me that things keep changing in this format, so I need to keep believing. I’ve always heard from everyone and also watched games in this format where strange things have happened. Today, I was fortunate to play a big role in something special. I was bowling a bit too short earlier, later worked on it consciously after getting a lot of feedback.
It’s funny that we kept believing (that we could win). I kept the overs of Mustafizur and Tyagi for the end, believing. Cricket is a funny game right. We just kept fighting and believing. I always believe in my bowlers, want to keep fighting and that’s why I kept those two overs till the end. To be very honest, to get that score on this wicket, we felt good because we had the bowling. If we took the catches, we could have won the game earlier. People have really worked hard on their fitness.
