Dhawan is the highest run-scorer in the first half of the IPL 2021. He has played 8 matches for DC where he scored 380 runs at an extraordinary average of 54.28 and an explosive strike rate of 134.27. He has also hit three fifties in eight games which shows that he has been consistent with the bat.

However, he was still not picked in Team India for the T20 World Cup. Mumbai Indians batsman Ishan Kishan, who is also an opener and can keep the wickets as well as selected as a backup opener. KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma are expected to open the batting for Team India in T20 WC. Dhawan was likely to be the backup opener. But the selection committee decided to leave him out.

Explaining why Shikhar Dhawan was left out Chetan Sharma said, “Shikhar Dhawan is a very important player for us, he was the captain in Sri Lanka. What discussion happened I cannot disclose. He is important and he is there in the loop. But the need of the hour was that we look at other players and give Shikhar Dhawan some rest, otherwise he is an important player and he will be back very soon.”

Earlier, a day ahead of India’s T20 World Cup team announcement, Shikhar Dhawan suffered a personal blow. His wife Ayesha Mukherjee (also known as Aesha Mukerji) shared that the couple has gone separate ways after completing their divorce after almost 10 years.

Shikhar Dhawan married the Melbourne-based boxer, Ayesha Mukherjee, in 2012 and adopted her two daughters from her previous marriage. The couple has a son named Zoravar. Ayesha Mukherjee broke the news on her new Instagram page named ‘Aesha Mukerji’ on Tuesday. Sources in the know of developments confirmed the news to ANI.

Now that the IPL is just around the corner, Dhawan will want to keep performing for Delhi Capitals and gave his best to help them win their first-ever IPL title.
