Kolkata Knight Riders star opening batsman Shubman Gill has joined the team for a practice session. The development comes after he underwent a mandatory 6 days quarantine at the team hotel. He will now look to start afresh after a shin injury forced him to miss the recently-concluded Test series in England. Gill had scored 132 runs for KKR during the opening leg of IPL 2021 in India.

The right-handed batsman is a vital cog for KKR as they look for a turnaround in the remaining fixtures. They are currently at the second last of the IPL 2021 Points Table. Their first goal will be to make it to the playoffs. As a result, the 22-year-old will now look to make amendments in his stats by emulating the success in IPL that he enjoyed in the last edition of UAE. The youngster had amassed 440 runs in 14 matches the KKR.
Gill is optimistic about KKR’s chances of making it to the knockout stages of the tournament.
“I think we are very much in contention to finish in the top 4. Whichever team qualifies, you never know what will happen,” Gill told KKR last month.
“Hopefully we will win the remaining matches, make sure we qualify and then we’ll see where we go from there,” he added.
A brilliant performance could bring him back to the Team India fold in ODIs after he missed a ticket to the T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, KL Rahul pounced on the opportunity in his absence to firm his place in the longest format.
Kolkata Knight Riders will begin their IPL 2021 Phase 2 campaign against Virat Kohli’s RCB. The thrilling encounter will take place on September 20 in Abu Dhabi.
