IPL 2021: Virat Kohli very impressed with RCB’s replacement players, says ‘they have great skillsets’

Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli is quite impressed with the set of replacements for IPL 2021 Phase 2. He said that he is quite excited to see them in the practice sessions. Notably, RCB has roped in as many as 5 replacements for IPL 2021 UAE leg.

“I have been in touch with everyone. We have had discussions over the last month or so, a little longer with that with the replacements and who’s coming, who’s not. Eventually, we ended up replacing our key players with some top-quality cricketers. Our key players will be missed and they are a part of the family. But the people coming in have some great skillsets, especially in these conditions. I am very excited to see them with the whole group at practice & very excited to resume a very good season that we started last time around,” said Kohli in a video posted by the franchise on Monday.

George Garton for Kane Richardson

England uncapped player Geroge Garton earned a place in the RCB squad for his heroics in The Hundred for Southern Brave. He has taken 44 wickets in 38 T20s and is likely to warm the bench for the Men in Red.

Wanindu Hasaranga for Adam Zampa

Sri Lanka’s new spin sensation got an opportunity to play for Virat Kohli-led RCB after his heroics during the recently concluded India tour of Sri Lanka (limited-overs series). Since then he has become a consistent performer for his national side.

Dushmantha Chameera for Daniel Sams

Another Sri Lanka player Dushmantha Chameera also earned an IPL contract for his decent bowling performance against India. He is likely to sit on the bench amid the likes of star players in the RCB squad.

Akash Deep for Washington Sundar

The 24-year-old Bengal seamer, Akash Deep, has been a net bowler for RCB. While he will not be a like-to-like replacement, the franchise has been impressed with his work at the nets.

Meanwhile, pacer Mohammed Siraj sounded excited on linking up with RCB team in Dubai and the second leg ahead. “Joining RCB family after so many days. I am very excited. We are in a good position on the points table so it will be a lot of fun. We have very good player replacements so looking forward to it. To be honest my career picked up from here so I am very excited to be back. In the Australia series where I was the leading wicket-taker, I am ready to take on a similar responsibility.”

Kohli and Siraj are now under mandatory hotel quarantine of six days after arriving in Dubai on Sunday. RCB are currently at third place in the points table with 10 points from seven matches. They will commence their second leg of IPL 2021 against Kolkata Knight Riders in Abu Dhabi on September 20.
