When the news of Virat Kohli stepping down as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) broke, most of the people were busy watching CSK vs MI match. But as RCB tweeted their captain’s will, the focus shifted and left stunned. Within a week, they had received their second jolt — Kohli will step down after IPL 2021, right after taking the call of quitting India T20I captaincy. Yuzvendra Chahal had the same feeling but he is confident that Kohli will make IPL 2021 a special occasion and deliver the title that RCB fans have been waiting for 14 years.
“I am so happy that the IPL has resumed. RCB really had a brilliant start to the season. We have a big chance of winning our maiden title. I am sure Virat bhaiya will take RCB to their maiden title this time,” Yuzvendra Chahal told TOI.
During Virat Kohli’s captaincy, RCB have played one IPL final and two IPL playoffs but have not been successful and the trophy remained elusive whereas his closest rivals MS Dhoni have won three and Rohit Sharma have won 5.
This time, RCB have started well again, managing 10 points in 7 games to sit at third place. As Virat Kohli is set to step down as the captain ahead of the mega auction for IPL 2022, Yuzvendra Chahal believes it will be a last hurray and he will lead with the same intensity.
“Virat bhaiya is the same when he captains RCB and India. His hunger for wins and appetite for runs remains the same for both RCB and India. I am lucky that I get his guidance when I play in both colours (RCB and India),” Yuzvendra Chahal said.
