Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni confirmed that he will be returning for IPL 2022 and play his last T20 at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. While earlier he refused to clear the air on his future, at the CSK’s IPL 2021 title celebration in Chennai, he clarified on his future.

“I have always planned my cricket, my last international game on home turf was in Ranchi, hopefully, my last T20 will be in Chennai. Whether it is next year or in five years, we do not know,” MS Dhoni said at CSK celebration.

“I think it is a great stage where I can thank all the ex-cricketers, my fellow cricketers and also the BCCI administrators for their contribution to cricket. Thanks a lot for your effort, cricket has changed over the years but because of the effort we are here and cricket will keep moving forward,” Dhoni added.

Chennai Super Kings, who won their 4th IPL trophy, finally celebrated their success on Saturday. However, Dhoni, the focal point of all discussions regarding CSK, stayed silent on his future, saying there is still time to take a call. The success party was pending as CSK skipper, Chennai adopted son MS Dhoni was roped in as mentor of the Indian Cricket Team for the T20 World Cup. After his return, CSK owners India Cements on the 75th anniversary of the Cements group.

Under the leadership of Dhoni, CSK won their 4th IPL trophy by defeating KKR in Final on October 15 in Dubai. CSK had earlier won the tournament in 2010, 2011 and 2018. They also won Champions League T20 in 2010 and 2014.

“I will think about it, there is a lot of time, right now we are just in November. IPL 2022 will be played in April,” said MS Dhoni at an event in Chennai.

Last month, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said that CSK will only celebrate their 4th IPL trophy after MS Dhoni returns to India. The legendary keeper returned from UAE last week.

“We shall wait for the skipper to return to India. We shall happily wait as there can be no celebration without MS. He has already switched caps from CSK skipper to Team India mentor, so we shall have a small get together once he returns to India after the T20 World Cup,” he told ANI.

At 40, he may not be the same batsman but that he led CSK to their fourth IPL title says a lot. While the man himself kept it a mystery earlier, for CSK management, the choice is obvious, ‘He is going to stay for another season.’
