Mumbai Indians (MI) is back in contention with a win against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Tuesday. The team’s allrounder Kieron Pollard admitted ‘team is under pressure to win’ but now with the win vs PBKS ‘they are back in the hunt’. According to Pollard the biggest strength in their armoury is BELIEF. Yes, you heard it right. He said that the team member have belief in each other and can win matches on a trot to qualify for IPL Playoffs.
“There was a lot of pressure on us to win the matches at the backend. What we have is belief in one another that in any given situation we can try to get ourselves out of it. It is because we have guys who have been in tough times at different scenarios in different times. So, I think the biggest thing for us is belief. And, at the end of it, we have put ourselves in a position that we are in now,” Pollard said in the post-match conference.
“They have done it before and they can do it again. We can win from this position and qualify for Playoffs. Team is trying is to find the solution. For us its about backing the individuals and try to give confidence as they are young and talented,” he added.
Mumbai Indians now have jumped to 5th place from 7th and share equal 10 points with 4th placed KKR.
He also shed lights on the slowness of the pitches in UAE as the tournament progress.
“As individuals, we need to adjust on these pitches. We need to adapt at different times,” he said.
Pollard also spoke about the importance of Saurabh Tiwary’s timely knock of 37-ball 45 and his consistency in IPL 2021.
“Saurabh Tiwary has batted on those crunch situation. He batted well for us in the middle. He was backbone for us in the game today,” he signed off.
On the personal front, Kieron Pollard became the first player to scalp 300 wickets, take 300+ catches and 10,000 runs in the T20 format.
