NZ vs AFG: Rashid Khan completes 400 wickets in T20s, becomes fastest to achieve the feat

Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan added one more feather to his cap as he completed 400 wickets in the shortest format of the game. Rashid dismissed New Zealand’s Martin Guptill in Afghanistan’s last Super 12 clash of the 2021 T20 World Cup to complete his 400 wickets. He also became the fastest to achieve the feat.

Rashid Khan has now included himself in the list of bowlers with the most T20 wickets and is now only behind Dwayne Bravo, Imran Tahir, and Sunil Narine. The 23-year-old has raced to 400 wickets in just 289 matches, 31 less than his successor Imran Tahir who took 320 games for the same cause. Behind Rashid and Tahir are Sunil Narine (362 Matches) and Dwayne Bravo (365 matches).

Rashid outfoxed Martin Guptil with a deceptive googly and ran through the gap between bat and pad to account for the Kiwi. The Afghan leggie took his 399th wicket in the game against Namibia. Earlier, during Afghanistan’s match against Pakistan, he completed 100 wickets in T20 internationals in just 53 games and became the fourth bowler to do so along with Lasith Malinga, Tim Southee, and Shakib Al Hasan.

Apart from wickets, Rashid has also been very economical. He boasts of an impressive economy rate of 6.35 rpo, which is the second-best for bowlers to have played 200 T20 games after Sunil Narine (6.04 rpo).
