Pakistan have unearthed yet another superstar as Asif Ali yet again showcased his hitting prowess as the Men in Green put one foot into the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup. Played as a designated finisher, Ali single-handedly turned the game around, hitting four sixes of Karim Janat’s 19th over to seal the win.

After guiding his team to victory over New Zealand, Asif Ali sealed yet another win for Pakistan with his power-hitting on Friday. Coming into bat in a tense situation, the 30-year-old sealed a third consecutive win for Babar Azam and Co, to virtually seal their berth in the semi-final. Needing 24 to win in 13, Asif Ali refused a single from Shadab Khan to keep the strike, taking the responsibility to finish the innings.

What followed was a Carlos Brathwaite style onslaught, as the 30-year-old launched a couple of sixes in the first three balls of the over, to bring the equation down to just 12 off the nine balls. With the game in the bag, Ali wasn’t content as he hit the final two balls over the fence, to clinch a thrilling win with six balls to spare. Asif Ali’s 7-ball 25 earned him another player of the match performance, earning plaudits from cricketers and pundits from all around the globe.

Ben Stokes, Michael Vaughan, Irfan Pathan and many others were all in awe of the Pakistan finisher’s power-hitting, as he guided Pakistan over the finish line. Aakash Chopra opined that Babar Azam and Co. were the team to beat in the T20 World Cup, and Asif Ali added firepower which they lacked. Ben Stokes simply tweeted, “Remember the name” a phrase that went viral after Carlos Brathwaite had hit four sixes in the 2016 World Cup final.
