Pant fails litmus test in Karthik’s absence, reckless reverse sweep triggers India collapse – Watch Video

India’s gamble to play young wicketkeeping batter Rishabh Pant failed as Pant gifted his wicket away cheaply in a high-voltage India vs Pakistan clash in the Asia Cup 2022 Super 4s. India skipper Rohit Sharma opted for the gamble where he opted to drop Dinesh Karthik for Pant, but it met a disastrous end.

Rishabh Pant’s capabilities can’t be questioned but it can be understood very well that Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma opted for an aggressive approach against their arch-rivals Pakistan. The Men in Blue who won their first game against Pakistan by 5 wickets will be eyeing another victory with their aggressive approach.

But Rohit Sharma’s pain had a big fall when Rishabh Pant played a wayward shot and literally gifted his wicket to the opposition. India started well with the opening pair duo of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul giving a strong start. Following their and Suryakumar Yadav’s dismissal, came Rishabh Pant’s chance to fire up the clash.

While it was thought that Pant would go on and build a solid partnership with former skipper Virat Kohli, Pant managed to survive just 12 deliveries where he managed to score 14 runs. It was his dismissal that led to the collapse of the Indian middle order. Up next Hardik Pandya, the star player in the previous game got dismissed for a duck.

Pant’s recklessness in playing a reverse sweep saw him getting dismissed very cheaply. A tossed-up delivery outside the off stump from young Shahdab Khan saw him attempting to play a reverse sweep. Loose contact with the ball saw Pant tossing the ball to the backward point area where Asif Ali makes no mistake in taking a very easy catch.
