Surykumar Yadav lights up Guwahati SKY with fireworks, smashes 18-ball 50 to become third-fastest Indian to reach 1000 T20I runs landmark,

Suryakumar Yadav has been in a purple patch with the bat for quite sometime now and on Sunday he scored his third successive T20I half-century in the second T20I against South Africa at Guwahati. He slammed an 18-ball fifty and during the knock, he also became the third fastest Indian to go past 1000 runs in T20I cricket.

Suryakumar needed 24 runs in the match to go past 1000 runs in T20 International cricket. After Indian openers gave a good start, Suryakumar came into bat following the dismissal of KL Rahul in the 12th over. He started off aggressively by scoring two boundaries off just the first four balls he faced. He then reached the 1000 run landmark by scoring 24 runs off just 10 balls.

He reached the milestone in his 31st innings in T20Is. Virat Kohli is the fastest Indian batter to reach 1000 runs in T20Is as he achieved the milestone in just 27 innings. KL Rahul did it in 29 innings. Meanwhile, in terms of the number of balls faced, Suryakumar is the fastest in the world to reach the 1000-run mark. He is the only batter to score 1000 runs in less than 600 balls. He took just 573 balls to reach the landmark at a whopping strike-rate of 174.

Suryakumar continued to showcase his good form by punishing the South African bowlers in the innings and went on to score a fifty off just 18 balls, equalling KL Rahul as the joint-second fastest Indian to score a half-century for India in T20Is. This was his third successive fifty in T20Is. Rahul’s 18-ball fifty came last year in the T20 World Cup against Scotland.

Suryakumar was looking to play a big knock but his blistering innings came to an end after he scored 61 off 22 deliveries. He was dismissed in an unfortunate manner as he was run-out after a mix-up with Virat Kohli. Nevertheless his knock played a big role in helping India score 237 in 20 overs.
