Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament: Setback to Tamil Nadu, after Dinesh Karthik now Washington Sundar also ruled out due to finger injury

After missing team India berth to T20 World Cup, Washington Sundar is yet to recover from the finger injury that he sustained during India tour of England. As a result, he has been ruled out of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament. “Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament with his injured finger not having healed completely,” Cricbuzz said in a tweet post.

Sundar is recovering from a finger injury sustained during the England tour, following which he had been asked to take six weeks rest by NCA staff. He missed both IPL and T20 World Cup and now the domestic tournament.

Earlier on Monday, Dinesh Karthik was ruled out of the T20 tournament due to an injury. As a result, all-rounder Vijay Shankar will lead Tamil Nadu in the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament. Adithya Ganesh has been picked to replace Karthik, the TNCA said in a release. Wicketkeeper-batter N Jagadeesan has been named vice-captain of the team.

“Dinesh Karthik is said to be suffering from a knee injury,” Tamil Nadu selection committee chief S Vasudevan told PTI.

Meanwhile, Left-arm pacer T Natarajan, who missed the second phase of the IPL in the UAE after contracting Covid-19, is part of the 20-man Tamil Nadu squad. Apart from Natarajan, the bowling attack includes Sandeep Warrier, M Mohammed, J Kousik and spinners R Sai Kishore, M Siddharth and M Ashwin.
