T20 World Cup: After Vaughan, now Dale Steyn slams CSA for boycotting Faf du Plessis on CSK’s IPL 2021 victory post

Former South Africa cricketer Dale Steyn has slammed Cricket South Africa for boycotting IPL 2021 champions Faf du Plessis and Imran Tahir. In a congratulatory post, CSA only wished CSK and SA pacer Lungi Ngidi which has now been deleted on social media. The post read: “Congratulations Lungi Ngidi on claiming the 2021 IPL title with Chennai Super Kings.”

Replying to the post, Faf du Plessis wrote, “really???”

Du Plessis, the CSK opening batsman, played a key role throughout the season and in the finals as the MS Dhoni-led side lifted the fourth IPL title on Friday.

He was not included in South Africa’s T20 World Cup squad. The right-handed batsman finished with 633 in 16 matches in IPL 2021.

Steyn also joined the conversation and wrote, “Who’s running this account? Last I checked Faf isn’t even retired, Imran isn’t retired, both these guys have given years of service to CSA and they are not worth a mention? Disgusting.”

“CSA now blocked the comments section. Here’s some advice. Do the right thing. Delete the post and add all the men involved, save yourself the embarrassment and ridicule,” Steyn tweeted.

“CSA opening a can of worms for themselves with their Twitter and Instagram. Whoever’s running those accounts needs a talking too,” he added.

Coming back to the match, Du Plessis called his opening partner Ruturaj Gaikwad, a ‘young gun’ and a ‘champion’, for his breakthrough performance in the IPL 2021.

Du Plessis, who played his 100th IPL match on Friday, shared some of his moments of being with the franchise.

“It’s been a really important season for me. I love my time here at CSK. It always brings the best out of me. It is remarkable to see how all the players stood up and performed this season,” said Du Plessis.
