T20 World Cup: Pakistan PM Imran Khan, Ramiz Raza console Babar Azam & Co. after semi-final loss to Australia

Babar Azam led Pakistan suffered 5 wickets defeat against Australia in thrilling semi-final 2 of the Men’s T20 World Cup in Dubai on Wednesday. The Men in Green were unbeaten throughout the tournament and dominated most of the part of Wednesday’s clash before some late assault from Matthew Wade and M Stoinis saw them on the other side of the result. Reacting to the same, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan congratulated Babar & Co for an impressive run throughout the tournament and also shared his own example to boost the team’s morale.

After being put in to bat, The Men in Green posted a competitive total of 176/4 on the board with the help of the fifties from Mohd Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman. Coming to chase, Australia were in deep trouble at 96-5 when Marcus Stoinis (40) and Wade (41) put unbeaten 81 run partnership guide Australia home with one over to spare in.

Soon after Pakistan’s semi-final loss to Australia, Pakistan PM Imran Khan took to Twitter and wrote: “To Babar Azam & the team: I know exactly how all of you are feeling right now bec[ause] I have faced similar disappointments on the cricket field,”

“But you [should] all be proud of the quality of cricket you played & the humility you showed in your wins.”

PCB Chairman Ramiz Raza also took to social media after Pakistan’s exit from the T20 World Cup to congratulate Babar Azam & Co on the way they fought in the showpiece event. “You have united the land truly and you have refreshed it’s mood with promise. We thank you and we are proud the way you fought. Well done boys,” Ramiz Raza tweeted.

Pakistan’s former pace legend Shoaib Akhtar also took to Twitter to console as well as congratulate Babar Azam and Co on such a stellar campaign. Akhtar felt that The Men In Green fell short by 20 runs during the 19th over of their batting. Akhtar wrote: “That 19th over during the batting. It was where we fell short.”

“Overall 20 runs short. But what a campaign. Long way to go from here.”

Apart from them, many former Indian cricketers also took to their social media to praise Pakistan’s stellar performance and also congratulated Australia for booking a spot against New Zealand in Sunday’s final in Dubai.

Meanwhile, both Australia and New Zealand will lock horns at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai on Sunday in the T20 World Cup 2021 Final. Both teams are aiming for their maiden T20 WC trophy and a cracker of a game is on the cards.
