T20 World Cup: PTV takes action, ‘Shoaib Akhtar & Nauman taken off-air’, former Pakistan speedster calls decision ‘hilarious’

Pakistan pace legend Shoaib Akhtar and PTV Sports anchor-person Nauman Niaz both have been taken off-air following an on-air spat between the two on live TV. Both Akhtar and Niaz were involved in a verbal spat on Tuesday after Pakistan’s victory over New Zealand during the PTV Sports show “Game on Hai”. PTV released a statement that said, “neither Akhtar nor Dr. Nauman will be allowed to appear in any program on PTV,” until the inquiry of the spat between the two doesn’t complete.

Reacting to PTV’s released statement, Pakistan former pacer Shoaib Akhtar took to Twitter to say that PTV’s decision seems “hilarious”. Akhtar wrote, “Well, that’s hilarious. I resigned in front of 220 million Pakistanis & billions across the world. Is PTV crazy or what? Who are they to off-air me?” in his Twitter post.

Both the personalities were seen involved in an ugly spat on live TV on Tuesday while discussing Pakistan’s victory over New Zealand. It is still not clear what sparked the differences between the two and the inquiry for the same has been initiated.

During the show, Akhtar credited PSL’s Lahore Qalandars for discovering Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf. However, Nauman Niaz apparently took the offense and hit back at Akhtar.

“You’re being a little rude and I don’t want to say this: but if you’re being over smart, you can go. I am saying this on-air,” Niaz said on air. Akhtar eventually decided to walk away after tendering an apology to other guests that featured Sana Mir, Vivian Richards, among others.

“A lot of apologies guys, a lot of apologies. I am resigning from PTV. The way I have been treated on national TV, I don’t think I should be sitting here right now. So, I am resigning. Thank you very much,” he said.

The whole incident sparked nationwide outrage with netizens demanding PTV sack Nauman Niaz. And, both Akhtar and Niaz have been taken off-air till the completion of the inquiry.
